Creative learning and well-being grounded in visual storytelling, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence

Imagine a moment to pause, to notice the light, the shadows, the shapes around you. To reflect, create, and move with intention. Andrea’s work lives at the intersection of mindfulness, education, and creative practice—supporting individuals and communities in reconnecting with what matters most.

Andrea Passarella is a contemporary visual storyteller and educator with over 20 years of experience in photography, arts education, and contemplative pedagogy.

She blends photography with mindful practice, guiding students and creative learners of all ages to make intentional choices, take creative risks, and develop a visual language that is both technically strong and personally meaningful.

Her work integrates leadership, mentorship, and reflective facilitation, helping individuals and groups navigate complex learning and creative experiences with clarity, curiosity, and purpose.

From studying with renowned photographer Mary Ellen Mark in the neighborhoods of Oaxaca to leading workshops in Los Angeles and conducting research in higher education, Andrea’s work has unfolded across classrooms, studios, and community spaces, where relationships, presence, and trust shape the learning experience — an approach reflected in Mark’s observation:

“You have a warm and great way with people, and it shows in your pictures.” ~ MEM

Across settings, Andrea designs experiences where relationships, presence, and trust shape the learning process.

I’ve learned that where we come from shapes how we experience the world—and how we walk alongside others. Some of my earliest experiences of discovery came from being outdoors, paying attention, and learning to listen beyond words. Those early moments of noticing became the roots of my contemplative practice and continue to guide how I live and work today.

I believe no artistic or learning practice is complete without mindfulness—an ongoing commitment to observing, reflecting, and being present. This presence creates space for growth, inviting us to meet each moment with curiosity, care, and openness.

I’m here to support others in their own journeys of exploration—their own mesearch—and to walk alongside the discoveries that unfold when curiosity and presence come together

“You don’t take pictures with your camera. You take pictures with your heart and mind.” ~Arnold Newman

Andrea’s work comes to life through photography, long-form projects, and collaborative creative practice. Her portfolio includes community-centered projects such as Matriarch and photo essays like Below the Line, exploring themes of memory, labor, resilience, and belonging.

This moment is part of Matriarch, a project shaped by oral tradition, storytelling, and familial memory. Working in the kitchen alongside my mother, I listen, I ask, and I move with the women in my family, connecting to a lineage of matriarchs—their labor, resilience, and stories. Explore Projects
